The IDF and the Shin Bet have eliminated Basel Himouni, a senior Hamas terrorist responsible, among other attacks, for the 2004 bus bombing in Be’er Sheva in which 16 civilians were killed.
Another major chapter has closed in the fight against terrorism: The IDF and Shin Bet have eliminated Basel al-Himouni (also reported as Basel Al-Himouni or similar spellings), a senior Hamas operative.
Himouni was directly responsible for orchestrating deadly attacks, including his key role in the 2004 Beersheba bus bombings—a double suicide bombing on August 31, 2004, that killed 16 Israeli civilians and injured over 100 others. Hamas claimed responsibility for that attack at the time.
Originally imprisoned in Israel for his terrorist activities, he was released to Gaza in the 2011 Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal, which saw over 1,000 Palestinian prisoners freed in return for the captured Israeli soldier.
