A wide-ranging federal investigation in Minnesota continues to expand amid allegations of large-scale fraud involving the abuse of federal programs, primarily through early childhood centers and related social facilities.
Federal investigators have now begun going door-to-door at sites suspected of involvement as part of intensified evidence-gathering efforts.
The head of the FBI, Kash Patel, announced that additional resources are being deployed to Minnesota to accelerate the investigation. According to Patel, the case represents a serious abuse of taxpayer funds and a systematic exploitation of federal assistance programs intended for vulnerable populations.
According to reporting in the United States, indictments have so far been filed against 98 individuals, 85 of whom are of Somali origin. More than 60 have already been convicted in court. A spokesperson for Minnesota Governor Tim Walz said the governor has strengthened oversight measures and ordered investigations into the facilities involved, with at least one center already shut down.
