Difficulties with Egypt regarding the negotiations on Gaza? This does not prevent Israel from increasing gas exports to it!
Egypt and Israel are finding it difficult to bridge the gaps in the negotiations on Gaza, but in the field of gas things are going more smoothly.
Egyptian imports of Israeli natural gas have increased by 18% since the beginning of this month, and have now reached about 1 billion cubic feet per day, compared to 850 million cubic foot per day in July, according to two government officials in Cairo.
Egypt is trying to increase the quantities of natural gas available in the country during the second half of the year, in order to meet the electricity needs in the summer months, after the decrease in local gas production.
One of the officials said that "the quantities of gas imported from Israel began to improve from the beginning of the month, and they range from 950 million to 1 billion cubic feet per day thanks to the decrease in demand in Israel during August."
The second official noted that Egypt's national natural gas network receives quantities of Israeli gas, "in addition to approximately 300 million cubic feet per day on average from gas shipments arriving at the port of Aqaba."
