US begins migrant criminal flights to Guantanamo after Trump crackdown
The first flights carrying criminal migrants detained under President Trump’s immigration crackdown have departed for Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, where a small detention center could be expanded to hold tens of thousands.
According to the *Wall Street Journal*, two planes departed this week, including one from Fort Bliss, Texas, carrying about a dozen migrants.
While Guantanamo Bay is primarily known for detaining foreign terrorists captured by the U.S., it has long maintained space—about 120 beds—for migrants caught attempting to enter the U.S. via the Gulf of Mexico.
