A senior official from Somaliland told Israel’s Channel 12 that the territory is open to security cooperation with Israel against the Houthis, describing them as a “common enemy” amid rising threats to regional maritime routes.
The official warned that if Houthi forces continue disrupting shipping lanes, it would be in the shared interest of Somaliland and Israel to deepen coordination, potentially leading to a broader security alliance.
He emphasized that Somaliland is ready to engage in similar cooperation with Israel, particularly in protecting strategic waterways.
Somaliland also highlighted its growing ties with the US and the United Arab Emirates after Israel's historic recognition earlier this year, noting the UAE’s presence at Berbera port. Its geographic position near the Bab el-Mandeb Strait—a key global trade artery handling roughly 12% of world commerce—makes it a critical player in any effort to counter threats to maritime security.
