The war in Ukraine could also herald a new era in economic sanctions. According to several reports, the US is considering imposing sanctions on Russia in the field of digital currencies as a significant part of the Russian financial system is based on the use of cryptocurrencies.

If such sanctions are imposed it is not a simple task as digital currencies were originally intended to operate without borders and outside government regulations. Since the invasion, the possibility has been raised that Russia will be cut off from the international payment system "Swift" and in such a case Putin and his people can find refuge in digital currencies although it is estimated that the crypto sector will not be able to meet Russia's huge trading needs.

The crypto is also used by the other side. Since the invasion began, the Ukrainian military has transferred $4 million using digital currencies.
