The United States is significantly limiting its rocket defense systems in the Middle East, as part of its policy to shift focus toward threats from China and Russia, the Wall Street Journal reported Friday.
Citing anonymous sources from the Biden administration, the report indicated that 8 Patriot batteries will be pulled from Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Kuwait, as well as the advanced defense system Thaad deployed across Saudi, together with hundreds of troops stationed to operate it.
The U.S. will also withdraw fighter jets and other military equipment.
The rushed withdrawal comes after two decades of war in the Middle East, and the historic pull out of the U.S. from Afghanistan.
The Biden administration views China as Washington’s main threat and not the war on terror or Iran.
