On the night of October 4, 2023, an S-400 Triumf long-range air defense system was hit. The attack was carried out by Ukrainian suicide drones.
Drones of the Security Service of Ukraine hit an anti-aircraft missile system on the territory of the Russian Federation. The air defense system located in the Belgrade region was attacked.
Local residents have published several videos in which dozens of explosions are heard at the site of the launch pads and the Podlyot radar station. The cost of such an air defense system is estimated at 1.2 billion dollars.
This is the second attack of its kind in less than a month.
About three weeks ago, the Defense Service in cooperation with the Ukrainian Navy destroyed a similar S-400 Triumph system in Crimea. However, in the same attack, two anti-ship missiles of the "Neptune" type with a range of 280 km and a warhead weighing 350 kg were used, along with suicide drones (kamikaze).
The S-400 Triumf is a long- and medium-range mobile air and missile defense system. It was developed in Russia in the 1990s and entered service in 2007. The system uses four different types of missiles to destroy aerial targets including aircraft, drones, surface-to-air missiles and ballistic missiles with a range of 40 to 400 kilometers (25 to 250 miles) and altitudes of up to 30 km.
The S-400 Triumf system bears the NATO designation SA-21 Growler and is the successor of the S-200 and S-300. The S-400 system in its set of missions and capabilities is similar to the American Patriot system.
However, the S The -400 does not currently use direct collision technology to defend against ballistic missiles, as some current Patriot missiles do, however, Russia is currently developing a new missile, the 77N6, which is believed to use direct collision technology.
