Jaish al-Adl claims killing of Iranian Revolutionary Guard officer in Balochistan
The Sunni militant group Jaish al-Adl has claimed responsibility for the assassination of Orangi Sourizai, a senior officer in Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), in Balochistan last Friday. According to reports, Sourizai played a central role in recent years in suppressing Balochi protests, monitoring local activists, and directing military operations against regime opponents in southeastern Iran.
The killing marks a significant blow to the Iranian regime’s grip over the restive Baloch region, where unrest has grown due to alleged discrimination and brutal crackdowns. Jaish al-Adl, which has carried out multiple attacks against Iranian forces in the area, said the assassination was a direct response to ongoing oppression of the Balochi people.
Jaish al-Adl, a Sunni extremist group based near the Iran-Pakistan border, has carried out numerous attacks on Iranian forces in protest of Tehran’s treatment of the Balochi minority.
