Batya Ungar-Sargon says Vice President JD Vance misled Americans by presenting the US-Iran memorandum as progress while ignoring the real danger of trusting Tehran.
Vice President JD Vance is facing sharp criticism after claiming that one of the “coolest” developments in the Iran negotiations was that people inside the Iranian system, including senior leadership and even IRGC officials, were supposedly beginning to question the point of continued hostility.
Batya Ungar-Sargon blasted Vance’s comments, saying he lied to the American people about the US-Iran memorandum and tried to sell them a fantasy about moderation inside the Iranian regime. Her argument is simple: the IRGC is not a misunderstood faction looking for peace. It is the engine of Iran’s terrorism, missile program, regional proxy network and war against Israel.
The idea that senior Iranian officials and IRGC figures are now suddenly rethinking their hostility should alarm anyone who understands the regime. Tehran has used negotiations for decades to buy time, divide the West, protect its nuclear program and rebuild pressure against Israel. Presenting this as proof of progress does not make America look wise. It makes America look deceived.
