Jerusalem, 13 April, 2023 (TPS) -- Just before the start of the last day of Passover, Israel Police in the north of the country foiled an assassination attempt that they connected with an alleged organized crime group.
Six suspects were arrested in Acre and two guns with ammunition, a vehicle, a bottle of gasoline, masks and other items were seized.
The suspects (ages 22-32, residents of Acre and Nahariya) were brought in for questioning at the central unit in the Hoof district on suspicion of attempted murder, carrying a weapon, stealing a car, conspiring to commit a crime and more. Their detention was extended Wednesday night at the Haifa Magistrate’s Court.
The arrests came after an undercover investigation that was conducted in the central unit in the area of criminal gang conflicts in the Acre and Nahariya region. Police said they suspected that members of one of the criminal gangs intended to carry out an assassination attempt in the near future, therefore the unit acted to “prepare an operational plan aimed at thwarting the assassination and preventing harm to human life.”
