Osama al-Rifai was appointed yesterday by president al-Sharaa as the new Mufti of Syria. Could this be the first step in a religious war?

The new Mufti's first speech on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr was directed against the Shiites, saying:

"They do not belong to Islam. From the beginning, they entered Islam to corrupt it with their idolatry.."
