Dramatic night in Syria: Druze fighters raise their flag as Israeli airstrikes shake Damascus
Druze forces made a bold statement in the city of Tahnaya near Damascus on Monday night, removing the Sunni Syrian revolutionary flag from a statue in Airplane Square and replacing it with the Druze flag—symbolizing a major shift on the ground in the Ashrafiya neighborhood.
According to the Al-Mayadeen Network, Israeli Air Force strikes targeted a weapons depot belonging to the Syrian regime near Damascus, as well as a group of armed men from the security forces of the al-Sharia government. Two of those men were reportedly killed.
In the Sweida region, a deadly ambush by Druze fighters resulted in the deaths of eight Islamist militants. Clashes escalated when forces loyal to Hayat Tahrir al-Sham leader Abu Mohammad al-Julani opened fire on the Druze village of Kanakhar, prompting immediate retaliatory fire from the local population.
