Senior officials in Jerusalem believe Iran is now using Hezbollah to create friction between Israel and the Trump administration.
The method is simple: encourage Hezbollah to violate the ceasefire, provoke an Israeli response, and then present Israel as the side sabotaging the US-Iran memorandum.
Israel’s position is that it respects the ceasefire, but it will not allow Hezbollah to exploit it as a shield. When IDF forces respond to Hezbollah fire or terror activity in Lebanon, Jerusalem insists this is self-defense — not an attempt to undermine Washington’s diplomatic track.
Tehran’s larger goal is even more dangerous. Iran is trying to force the United States and Israel to accept the principle of “unity of fronts” — tying the Iranian file to Lebanon, Hezbollah and the broader proxy network. In other words, Iran wants any agreement with Washington to also restrict Israel’s freedom of action against Hezbollah.
