For many years, Israel has been proving its utter helplessness in the face of the widespread, incessant and significant violations of the peace agreement between Israel and Egypt, by introducing huge military forces (more than a division) into the Sinai Peninsula.
The Egyptian army, in an attempt to justify its steps, claims that these are not violations but rather Israeli agreement to Egyptian requests to send forces to Sinai in order to fight ISIS forces operating throughout Sinai.
Israel, for its part, does not respond to these violations, which encourages the Egyptian army to further increase the flow of forces into Sinai.
It has been known for many years that the Egyptians have prepared extensive fortifications to quickly absorb more than 10 divisions that will be unexpectedly sent into Sinai if the Egyptians decide to act against Israel or Even just to threaten it.
Sources, who owe nothing to Egypt and are not influenced by political considerations, decided to address the American Congress over the head of the Israeli government and complained that the Egyptians are blatantly violating a peace treaty that the Americans themselves guarantee will be upheld.
And the first voices within Congress have already begun to call for the cessation of aid to Egypt until they reverse course (which will not happen!!).
The newspaper “Israel Hayom” reported that the American Congress is discussing for the first time allegations of Egypt’s violations of the peace treaty with Israel, amid growing concerns about the increase in Egyptian military reinforcements in Sinai.
According to the report, this sensitive issue will first be discussed in a closed session that includes members of the Republican Party. The item that came up for discussion indicated that Egypt is fundamentally violating the peace treaty by sending troops and tanks into Sinai, which is considered a strategic threat to Israel.
Several Republican representatives have called for a reconsideration of US financial support for Egypt, in addition to setting a timetable for the withdrawal of Egyptian forces from Sinai.
In this context, the newspaper quoted an Israeli military source as saying: “Sinai is considered a sufficient buffer zone if Egypt decides to take a hostile stance towards Israel.”
