WATCH: Gaza Humanitarian Foundation denied Reuters report of transit camps for Gazans

“We (GHF) are not planning for or implementing Humanitarian Transit Areas (HTAs) now or at any point in the future”

The US-backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) dismissed a Reuters report of planned transit camps for Gazan civilians as entirely false.

Reuters described the camps as voluntary “Humanitarian Transit Areas” built inside or outside Gaza to deradicalize the population and to provide a transition away from Hamas control of the Gaza Strip.

Although Reuters claimed the plan was created in February to conform with US President Donald Trump’s vision for Gaza, GHF said the group never made such a proposal.

“As we made clear to them [Reuters] repeatedly, GHF is not planning for or implementing Humanitarian Transit Areas (HTAs) now or at any point in the future,” GHF said in a statement to The Jerusalem Post.

“It is disturbing that they falsely reported this disinformation despite repeated denials. Our sole focus remains on scaling up food aid operations to meet the urgent and overwhelming needs of the population in Gaza,” the statement added.

Reuters claimed that the Humanitarian transit areas were part of a $2 billion project outlined on an extensive slide deck with details about how the project would be implemented and how the budget would be allocated.

However, GHF responded that the document was not theirs and denied that the group put forward the plans.

The group said the slides “are not a GHF document.” Although it has researched “a range of theoretical options to safely deliver aid in Gaza,” it is not planning for or implementing Humanitarian Transit Areas (HTAs).”

The US State Department would not comment on the matter and said, “Nothing of the like is under consideration. Also, no resources are being directed to that end in any way.”

According to the Reuters report, the project was stalled because of a lack of funds, and although Goldman Sachs and UBS had been approached, they declined to fund the project.
