NEWSRAEL: While factions in Syria fight each other could be a good thing - instability is always dangerous & explosive
Is the fall of Assad's regime good or bad for Israel? On one hand, Syria has been an enemy state under the brutal Assad dictatorship, which used chemical weapons and allowed Iranian influence. Thus, some might view its fall as beneficial for Israel.
However, if Assad is replaced by jihadist coalitions aiming to establish an Islamic caliphate—rather than a free Syria—this poses a significant threat. Many of these groups have expressed intentions to liberate Jerusalem and incorporate Israel into their caliphate.
While some may argue that internal conflicts among these groups are better than a united front against Israel, the reality is that a civil war next door, especially involving Islamist factions, is risky. These groups may not only fight among themselves but could also launch attacks on Israel.
