A dramatic decision by the political-security cabinet according to which the IDF will retain a grip on the Philadelphia axis also within the framework of a hostage deal.
Eight ministers voted in favor of the maps presented by the Prime Minister. Minister Yoav Galant objected and Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir abstained.
Officials present at the political-security cabinet discussion stated that the maps were drawn by the IDF, and adopted by the United States as part of the plan to return the hostages.
Cabinet ministers said in the discussion that this decision brings the possibility of a deal closer, as it makes it clear to Hamas that it will have to compromise on the Philadelphia issue, just as it compromised on its demand to end the war.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made it clear that the October Seventh disaster was possible as a result of the Philadelphia axis not being in Israel's hands.
A huge amount of weapons were flown through the axis, which were used by the terrorist organizations in Gaza. The Prime Minister said that this reality will not return again and that this time Israel is determined to keep this border in its hands.
The prime minister and cabinet ministers also stated that even before the disengagement, security officials claimed that they would know how to deal with the first rocket, and this did not happen after Hamas began raining fire on Israel.
The security officials also believed at the time that they would know how to deal with the withdrawal from Lebanon and even before that with the importation of terrorist elements into Judea and Samaria as part of the Oslo Accords. These estimates were also wrong.
It was also stated in the cabinet, that from a preliminary examination by the professionals, most of the hostages were killed in the first half of the year - right next to the Hamas attack - and not in the last few months.
