The barista at a café was fired after Jewish customer said cappuccino was served with cocoa arranged as a swastika
The incident occurred Sunday at The Coffee Cup, a long-established eatery on Hampstead High Street in London. The customer, a 45-year-old man from north London who asked not to be identified, said he was dining with his family when he noticed the design on his wife’s drink.
The man said he alerted management but sought to avoid a public confrontation. He said that the café’s general manager, Bekim Haradini, responded immediately and apologized, saying the design had been made by a 19-year-old trainee barista who claimed he had been attempting a "decorative swirl" and "did not understand the symbol’s meaning".
Haradini said that he took photographs of the drink and decided to dismiss the employee the same day. He said the café had never experienced a similar incident and that the decision was meant to demonstrate zero tolerance for symbols associated with antisemitism.
