Jerusalem, 22 October, 2024 (TPS) -- Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met Tuesday afternoon in Jerusalem for about two and a half hours with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Netanyahu’s office said the meeting was “friendly and productive,” after which a more extended meeting was held with the participation of the professional ranks from both countries.
At the meeting, the issue of the Iranian threat and the need for both countries to join forces against it was raised. Netanyahu thanked Blinken for the support of the US in the fight against Iran’s axis of evil and terrorism.
The Prime Minister also informed the Secretary of State about the activities of the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) in Lebanon and the need for security and in the north, which would allow Israel to return its residents who were evacuated due to Hezbollah attacks safely to their homes.
Blinken expressed his government’s “deep shock” at the Iranian attempt through Hezbollah terrorists to kill the Prime Minister of Israel in a drone strike on his home and made it clear that this was “an extreme and extraordinary event.”
The Prime Minister thanked the Secretary of State and noted that this is an issue of “dramatic significance.”
Netanyahu also spoke with Blinken about the progress of the fight in Gaza against the terrorist organization Hamas, and about the efforts that Israel is making to return all the abductees home.
Netanyahu emphasized that the elimination of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar may have a positive effect on the return of the hostages.
