U.S. administration officials said the president would seek to expand assistance in his meeting with Lapid today. The supply of weapons to Ukraine is the latest point of contention between the government and the Israeli government regarding the Russian invasion of Ukraine. To date, Israel has not agreed to supply Ukraine with advanced weapons.
US President Joe Biden will ask Prime Minister Yair Lapid at their meeting today (Thursday) that Israel expand its military aid to Ukraine, senior US administration officials said in a briefing to reporters.
Under pressure from the Biden administration, Israel gradually changed its policy toward Russia, taking more and more pro-Ukrainian positions than those it took immediately after the Russian invasion. However, so far Israel has not agreed to supply Ukraine with advanced weapons.
