The Colombian authorities captured a Colombian-Lebanese citizen accused of illegal export of natural resources to possibly finance the Lebanese Shiite terrorist group Hezbollah, the Prosecutor's Office reported this Saturday.
The capture of the individual, identified as Mahdy Akil Helbawi, alias 'Jonathan' or 'The Boss', was carried out by the Police in an operation carried out in a property in Cúcuta, capital of the department of Norte de Santander and bordering Venezuela, thanks to information provided by the United States, the Prosecutor's Office indicated in a statement.
"Information shared by the US Federal Investigation Agency (FBI) showed the presence in Colombia of alias 'Jonathan', who since 2016 had been illegally producing charcoal from rural areas of La Guajira," a department in the north of the country, the information added.
