The Federal Police (PF) launched, on Wednesday (8/11), a broad federal operation, the aim of which is to interrupt preparatory acts of terrorism, and prevent the recruitment of agents or operatives to carry out extremist actions in the country.
At its head two men were arrested in Sao Paulo. One of them was arrested, on Tuesday night (7/11), at Guarulhos International Airport (SP).
According to preliminary information from the investigators, the terrorists intended to carry out attacks on Jewish community buildings in the territory of Brazil, such as synagogues and Jewish concentrations, the process allegedly began as support for the terrorist organization Hamas in the war against Israel.
The investigated crimes are the formation of terrorist cells or joining a terrorist organization and preparing to carry out terrorist acts, the maximum punishment of which, if joined together, reaches 15 years and starts with 6 months in prison.
All of these crimes are covered by Brazil's terrorism law and are considered "serious crimes," meaning they cannot be appealed, or pardoned. Furthermore, the sentencing for these crimes is carried out in closed court.
In the state of Minas Gerais: 7 search warrants were executed and incriminating equipment and materials were seized.
