Despite the growing wave of protest in Jordan recently in view of the continued export to Israel (mainly of agricultural products), the government disavows it.
Agriculture Minister Khaled Al-Hanifat said that the government in general and his office in particular have nothing to do with the export of vegetables and fruits to Israel and neither do they encourage it.
He explained that the government cannot make a decision to prevent exports to a certain destination.
He also claimed that it is difficult to stop "re-exports" (that is, the passage of goods from another country through Jordanian territory to Israel) due to the economic damage that will be caused to Jordan.
The Jordanian minister also noted that the stoppage of exports to the "Israeli entity" as defined by him is done by the private sector, in contracts that have been signed for some time and they include financial obligations.
After all the explanations, he contented himself with reprimanding the exporters who continue to do business with Israel. "We say to them, in light of these circumstances, shame on you," Al-Hanifat said.
