Despite the failures so far to locate commercial gas fields in Lebanon's economic waters, it is not saying it is hopeless.
Yesterday, during a meeting between Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and the Prime Minister of Qatar, the president expressed hope that the French company Total, in cooperation with Qatar, will return to search for gas reserves off the country's coast.
As you may recall, the previous attempt to explore for gas in Block 9 in 2023 after the agreement with Israel did not discover commercial quantities of gas.
The Qatari Prime Minister did not respond directly to the Lebanese President's remarks, but stated that his country is committed to providing Lebanon with the energy inputs it needs to operate the country's electricity grid.
