A Mossad recruitment and operations officer, identified only as “G.,” revealed for the first time today that Mossad agents operated “under fire in the heart of Beirut” during the assassination of Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah last year.
Speaking at the Israel Security Award ceremony at President Isaac Herzog’s residence, G. accepted the award on behalf of the Mossad for its role in the high-profile mission. According to G., the success of the operation stemmed from the combination of advanced technology, precise intelligence, daring operational methods, and unprecedented cooperation across Israel’s defense establishment.
“The mission began when an ambitious technological idea, almost a fantasy, met the best technical minds,” G. said. “From that moment, a multi-year operation took shape, fusing innovation with bold action. In the end, Mossad operatives risked their lives under fire in Beirut to deliver the critical intelligence that enabled the strike.”
Nasrallah was killed on September 27, 2024, in an Israeli airstrike on a bunker in Beirut’s southern suburb, the culmination of a ten-day campaign that began with the so-called “pager operation.” That earlier strike targeted Hezbollah’s communications systems, detonating thousands of pagers and walkie-talkies, inflicting casualties and crippling command structures.
