Islamic scholar Ahson Syed, imam and director of religious affairs at the King Fahd Mosque, said in a January 15, 2026 lecture that Hamas “soldiers” did not kill any children during the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, calling such reports a “complete fabrication.”
He asserted that Hamas fighters “did not do what they are being accused of doing,” and suggested that while there “may have been” some Israeli civilian deaths, they were not on the scale reported by the media.
Syed described the events of October 7 as an operation by “armed Palestinian factions led by Hamas, but also supported by other groups,” who breached the Gaza boundary. His remarks sought to recast responsibility and minimize civilian harm attributed to Hamas during the attack.
