The cooperation between the ground forces and the air forces has become one of the most prominent and necessary elements since the ground maneuver in Gaza began. Whether it's closing circuits, thwarting terrorist groups, tunnel shafts, and IED warehouses - the Air Force Cooperation Unit has a hand in everything. But to understand where it started, we'll have to jump back 40 years - or actually 50?

"In 1974, after the Yom Kippur War, the IDF realized that a unit was needed to strengthen the communication between the Air Force and the Ground Arm," explains Lt. Col. N. who was responsible for IAF representatives in the brigades and divisions of the land arm. Later on, it evolved and became a unit of military intelligence."

About a year later, the TLSAM (helicopter assault transport) unit was established, which served as a professional headquarters for the field of flying troops. In the first Lebanon war, the necessity of an Air Force representative was felt in the command headquarters, the squadron and the divisions. Therefore, it was decided to unite the TLS and TLSAM , and in 1984 - the "5620 Cooperative Unit" was established.

The unit believes in learning and creating cooperation between the Air Force and the other forces in the IDF, and consists of a small core of regular soldiers, a large-scale reserve formation and officers and soldiers from the ground forces. to activate the air power - from the front of the green brigades.

"The structure of the unit today is much more efficient and accurate," said Lt. Col. N. Horetz, "with its help we can provide all the air capabilities to the maneuvering force, and work closely with them right from the briefing stage - until the end of the mission. Recently there has been a lively discussion about the cooperation of The air with the maneuvering forces, but this is already a joint mission, not a cooperation, we all move together.'

"During the war, we learned, refined and improved techniques thanks to which we prevented damage to our forces," explains the head of the integrated maneuver team, "wherever there is a fighter or an IDF person, we will be there, until the moment he returns home.
