In a bold move, Iraqi activists Sawlan Momika and his associate Salwan Najem have been spearheading a campaign to ban the Quran in Sweden. The duo strongly believes that the controversial book poses a grave threat to society.
Persisting in their campaign, Sawlan Momika and Salwan Najem have sparked fiery protests just outside the Moderates’ headquarters, near the Riksdag House [Parliament] in Sweden. The demonstration attracted around a hundred people, including 50 journalists, and garnered the attention of passing tourists.
At 1:15 p.m., Najem and Momika emerged, accompanied by about ten counter-protesters voicing their opposition through chants, music, and holding up the Quran. Speaking through a megaphone, Salwan Momika stated, “The Quran must be banned,” before kicking Islam’s holy book, which was set on fire after half an hour. This marks the third time this summer that the duo has attempted to burn the Quran, drawing significant national and international attention and sparking a diplomatic crisis with Muslim countries.
Expressen recently interviewed Salwan Najem about the security situation in the wake of the Quran burnings. He firmly stated that he bears no responsibility for the deteriorating security and danger but rather points to Muslims who zealously follow what he deems a “book of terror.”
Unyielding in their stance, Najem proclaimed to Expressen, “I will burn this many times until you ban the Quran.”
The activists remain resolute, with Salwan Najem vowing to continue burning the Quran until Sweden heeds their demand to ban the holy book. As tensions escalate, the implications for religious freedom and Sweden’s diplomatic relations continue to be at stake.
