The UN representative insisted on Israel taking responsibility for securing aid convoys while simultaneously rejecting IDF protection, which leaves the door open to blame Israel for the lack of aid.
Reporter: “As the UN just stated, you won’t accept security support in Gaza from any warring parties. Is that correct?”
UN Representative: “That is correct.”
Reporter: “But hasn’t the UN also said that, as the “occupying power” in Gaza, Israel has a responsibility to ensure security for humanitarian aid? How do you reconcile this?”
UN Representative: “Israel has a responsibility to ensure safety, but we can’t accept armed soldiers from either side. That would make us an even bigger target. The best protection is for the conflict to end.”
Reporter: “Understood, but this still seems contradictory. You say Israel must ensure security, yet you refuse IDF security. How does that work?”
UN Representative: “We aim to keep our people and the community as safe as possible—without jeopardizing neutrality.”
