One of the terrorists arrested by Israeli forces, Dirgham Zakarneh, was a member of the Jenin Battalion that operated from the Jenin refugee camp in recent years.
His arrest highlights a broader and deeply troubling pattern in Judea and Samaria. In August 2024, the IDF began systematic operations to dismantle the Jenin camp’s terrorist infrastructure.
During the fighting, dozens of terrorists fled the camp, and some were arrested by Palestinian Authority security forces amid the PA’s power struggle with popular terrorist organizations. Zakarneh was reportedly among those detained for a period.
Yet like many members of the younger generation of terrorists, Zakarneh had already spent time in Israeli custody. He was held in administrative detention between 2022 and 2023, but was later released and returned to terrorist activity.
