British and American merchant ships have returned to sailing in the Red Sea after the Houthis in Yemen pledged to stop attacks on ships linked to the two countries following the declaration of a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
The shipping industry hopes that this is a signal that sailing in one of the world's most important trade routes is expected to return to normal soon after more than a year of turmoil.
According to the Joint Maritime Information Center (JMIC), which collects information on Houthi attacks, six ships linked to the US and Britain have successfully sailed in the region without being attacked since January 19, the date on which the Houthis announced the cessation of attacks against ships linked to the two countries.
However, it should be noted that at this stage, despite the Houthis' promises, the world's largest shipping companies have not yet returned to sailing in the Red Sea.
