During a diplomatic briefing of the JCFA, former Mossad senior official Oded Ilam warned that Iran and Hezbollah operate terror networks and sleeper cells worldwide, not only against Israel but also against Western countries.
According to him, since the 1980s Tehran has built terror infrastructures in Europe, Asia, Africa, and Latin America, cooperating with local criminal elements. “Iran developed a model of partnership with criminal organizations, without ideology, just for money and carrying out attacks.”
Ilam revealed that in 1999 he was involved in foiling what he called “the largest terror attack ever planned,” which included simultaneous attacks against passenger ships, embassies, and American and Jewish targets. “It was supposed to cause tens of thousands of deaths within one hour,” he said.
According to him, this threat still exists and is even expanding. “What we saw in Brussels, Germany, Denmark, and London is just the beginning,” he warned. “Iran continues to operate terror cells worldwide, especially if no agreement is reached with the United States.”
