Pro-Palestinian groups used Independence Day to promote a coordinated message rejecting America’s history, legitimacy and national identity.
As millions of Americans celebrated the country’s 250th anniversary, anti-Israel protesters marched through Manhattan chanting “Death to the USA” and obscenities against the Fourth of July.
The street demonstration was accompanied by a broader social media campaign involving pro-Palestinian, Islamist, socialist and anti-Zionist organizations. Posts described the United States as “stolen land,” portrayed American independence as a product of genocide and displacement, and linked the country’s founding directly to attacks on Israel.
CAIR Action used the anniversary to condemn American institutions and promote political mobilization. The People’s Forum advertised socialist programming as an alternative to the national celebration, while Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace groups argued that there could be no Independence Day on “stolen land.”
