According to Arab sources, there is a need to take seriously the recent threat made by Hezbollah Secretary-General Naeem Qassem, who said he would send his supporters to the streets if the Lebanese government tries to open the file of “Al-Qard Al-Hasan” - the financial arm of the organization.
For Hezbollah, “Al-Qard Al-Hasan” is not just a loan institution but part of the core power of the organization - almost like the weapons.
After the collapse of banks in Lebanon and the freezing of public deposits, this institution became for Hezbollah’s environment a parallel economic network: cash loans, gold pledges, financial services, and social dependency - outside the official banking system and outside state supervision. Hezbollah fears that any attempt to bring “Al-Qard Al-Hasan” under official supervision will expose part of its financing mechanism and harm its ability to maintain its influence within the Shiite community.
