Polish Border Guard forces have reportedly discovered several underground tunnels over the past year crossing from Belarus into Polish territory, allegedly used to smuggle migrants into the European Union.
According to a report in the UK’s The Telegraph, Polish authorities believe the operation may be backed by Russia as part of a broader hybrid pressure campaign against the EU.
The tunnels were reportedly designed and dug with the assistance of “experts from the Middle East,” with assessments suggesting possible involvement of operatives linked to Hamas or Hezbollah.
The discovery adds a new dimension to the ongoing tensions along the Poland–Belarus border, which has seen waves of migrant pressure in recent years. Polish officials have repeatedly accused Minsk and Moscow of orchestrating migration flows to destabilize Europe.
