Israeli security officials believe Hamas is staging a cosmetic transfer of power in Gaza to avoid renewed Israeli military action.
Hamas’ governmental emergency committee is presenting what appears to be a dissolution process, ostensibly to accelerate the entry of a national committee into Gaza. According to Israeli daily 'Walla', the move may be intended to prevent a broad IDF operation in areas that remain under Hamas control.
Security officials assess that the emergency committee will be replaced by a body called the “Temporary Authority for Government Services,” creating the appearance of an alternative interim administration.
More than one security official described the plan as a Hamas deception, saying the terrorist organization has no intention of surrendering its weapons, dismantling its tunnel network or giving up effective control of Gaza.
