The United States military announced that it conducted an airstrike in southern Somalia, resulting in the deaths of two members of the Al-Shabaab group, which is affiliated with Al-Qaeda.
This operation, executed in coordination with Somalia's federal government, took place approximately 10 kilometers (six miles) southwest of Quyno Barrow, as reported by US Africa Command (AFRICOM).
The airstrike targeted a specific area in the Lower Shabelle province, with AFRICOM confirming that it was part of ongoing efforts to combat the insurgency. The command stated that it would continue to evaluate the operation's outcomes and provide further updates as necessary, though no additional details were disclosed.
The Somali government praised the operation as a "meticulously planned" initiative carried out with "international partners" in the same district. Their statement highlighted the successful elimination of a terrorist leader, Mohamed Mire Jama, also known as Abu Abdirahman.
