Following reports that the Venezuelan president had requested military assistance from Iran against US threats, an Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said on Monday that Venezuela “as an independent country with a determined people, is fully capable of defending itself.”
Esmail Baghay added in his press conference on Monday, November 3, that Tehran would continue its cooperation with Caracas “within the framework of its commitments” to Venezuela.
NEWSRAEL notes that while Iran did not say that it would send aid, it did allude that the aid Venzuela was already receiving from Iran was sufficient.
The response comes after Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro sent urgent letters to Moscow, Beijing and Tehran asking for their help in strengthening his country’s military and defense capabilities.
