An Israeli delegation led by the Ministry of Agriculture participated for the first time in the biennial international conference for the blue economy in Morocco.
Blue Economy refers to an economic system that tries to conserve water.
The Ministry of Agriculture explained that investing in aquaculture in Israel and exposing its capabilities to different countries is a strategic opportunity. The USDA explains that aquaculture is the production of aquatic organisms under controlled conditions throughout part or all their lifecycle. Its development can help meet future food needs and ease burdens on natural resources.
This is one of the fastest developing fields worldwide, with growth of 6-10% for over a decade, said the ministry.
The ministry explained that Morocco is considered a leading country in Africa in the production of food from the sea and the largest exporter of sardines in the world with over 1,000,000 square kilometers of economic waters.
