Jamal Matar, head of the precious metals sector at the Gaza Strip Ministry of Economy, said on Wednesday that Israel had decided to allow about 400 kilogrammes of gold a week from Gaza to West Bank cities. In an interview with Al-Aqsa Radio in Gaza, Matar stressed the authorities in Gaza will not allow the full utilisation of the permit but they will allow more exports of no more than 40 kg of gold per week.

Matar explained that no one knows exactly the amounts of gold in the Gaza Strip because many of the residents keep it in their homes, while in tandem with Israel, "there is a tendency to allow gold to enter the Gaza Strip." By the meter, gold exports have a positive effect on increasing liquidity in the Gaza Strip, but on the other hand, exporting large quantities of it will inhibit local factories in this area.
