A political storm has erupted in Beirut following reports that Israel submitted a list of Lebanese Army officers — including senior commanders — accused of passing sensitive information to Hezbollah.
According to the reports, Israel demanded that the officers be removed from their positions or prevented from deploying in southern Lebanon, where the Lebanese Army is expected to enforce security arrangements and prevent Hezbollah from rebuilding its military infrastructure.
Rodolphe Haykal, who is the commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces, has been said by Israel to be in "Hezbollah's pocket".
Lebanon’s Information Ministry and military authorities quickly issued a categorical denial, insisting that the army had received no such list from Israel. They described the reports as fabricated and misleading.
