Jordan Bardella, president of France’s National Rally party, issued a sharp warning to Algeria, calling on its leadership to accept the return of Algerian nationals residing illegally in France.
Bardella accused the Algerian regime of maintaining a hostile stance toward France, fueled by what he described as “historical resentment,” and argued that relations between the two countries must shift to one of equals. He stated that France had granted Algeria independence and now expects reciprocal cooperation, particularly on migration issues.
He further emphasized that a future French government under his political camp would take a tougher approach, not only demanding an end to what he called Algerian “provocations,” but also requiring authorities in Algiers to accept deportations of their citizens who do not have legal status in France.
The remarks come amid rising tensions between France and Algeria over immigration, diplomatic disputes, and lingering historical grievances dating back to Algeria’s war of independence from France.
