WATCH: Harvesting Date Palms in Preparation for Sukkot

Get into the spirit of Sukkot and watch the harvesting of lulavim (date palms) in Kibbutz Tirat Tzvi!

A lulav is a ripe, green, closed frond from a date palm tree and is one of the Four Species used during the Festival of Sukkot. The other species are the hadass (myrtle), arava (willow), and etrog (citron).

The lulav is edible, but has no smell and therefore represents the Jewish scholar who is dedicated to internalizing knowledge but does not distinguish himself with the performance of mitzvot (Torah commandments).

Get into the Sukkot spirit and check out the fascinating harvesting process on a kibbutz in Israel!
