Lebanon’s Foreign Ministry issued a rare rebuke of Tehran, condemning remarks by Ali Akbar Velayati, senior advisor to Iran’s Supreme Leader, as “clear and unacceptable interference” in Lebanon’s internal affairs.
Ali Akbar Velayati openly opposed Lebanon’s plan to disarm Hezbollah, calling the initiative a policy imposed by the U.S. and Israel and “a dream that won’t come true.” He emphasized that Iran has “always supported the Lebanese people and the resistance, and continues to do so”
The Lebanese condemnation marks an unusual public distancing from Iran and Shiism by Beirut’s diplomatic corps, which traditionally maintains cautious language regarding Tehran. The ministry’s comments reflect growing political sensitivities in Lebanon amid regional tensions and shifting alliances.
