The United States has announced sanctions against ICC judges involved in what Washington calls illegitimate investigations targeting Israel.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the sanctions will apply to judges of the International Criminal Court who were directly involved in pursuing cases against Israel, describing those probes as politically motivated and outside the court’s legal authority.
The move marks a sharp escalation in US opposition to the ICC’s actions and a clear signal of diplomatic and legal backing for Israel.
According to Rubio, the ICC has overstepped its mandate by targeting a democratic state defending itself against terrorism. US officials argue that such investigations undermine national sovereignty and risk setting a dangerous precedent in which Western leaders and military personnel are subjected to politicized international legal action.
