Yehudit Shier Weisberg, Jewish educator, writer, playwright and ventriloquist storyteller, noticed that so many people, non-Jews as well as Jews, do not know that the Jewish people are indigenous to the Land of Israel.
People do not realize that through the years of exile there were always Jews in the land, and that Arabs only came to the land centuries later.
One day, during a discussion about the lies that are told about Israel, someone mentioned the “woke” ideology. And words came into Yehudit’s head: “I woke up one day to the truth I’ve not been told”, deliberatively using the word “woke”.
She decided to write a poem about Jewish history and always pictured it being set to music. She then decided to write a Hebrew version of the song, as so many Israelis don’t know our history.
She was given the name of Aharon Menachem who wrote, sang, arranged and performed the song in Hebrew, and Resheet Pollack, a young 16- year-old artist, who set the poem to music and performed it.
The Hebrew and English versions came out quite differently, and they both capture the essence beautifully.
Yehudit made Aliyah from Toronto, Canada seven years ago, where she lives in Jerusalem with her husband and one of her sons.
