Israel, NGOs launch new farming innovation center in Kenya

The Israeli Embassy in Nairobi, in collaboration with several NGOs, has unveiled a new innovation and technology center in Kenya that will help train and equip local farmers to produce healthier and higher-yielding crops.

The Don Bosco Agricultural Innovation and Technology Center (AITEC) in Embu County offers a certified agriculture program and curriculum that includes Israeli know-how, as part of efforts to develop the country’s agricultural ecosystem and make it self-sufficient.

The center provides agricultural training and technology to help farmers increase and improve their yields, bringing better economic prosperity.

AITEC was jointly developed by the Israeli Embassy and several Israeli and international NGOs focusing on agricultural and technological development. Embu County Government and Don Bosco Tech Africa, which empowers African youth by providing them with technical training also contributed to the project.

“The launch of AITEC Embu demonstrates the strong partnership between Israel and Africa and how Israeli technology can make a direct impact on the day-to-day lives of local community members,” said Israeli Ambassador to Kenya Michael Lotem.

“It shows the local youth that agriculture can be a profitable and exciting field to work in. It underscores that knowledge and technologies mitigate risk and that there are many hi-tech opportunities in the agricultural sector.”
