According to Islamist doctrine, if you are Muslim, you are superior to the “Kaffir” simply because you are Muslim. The Quran, in their interpretation, provides divine justification for this belief, and from that worldview comes a political system they seek to impose on others.

Historically, the expansion model was often presented in three stages:

1. Convince the non-Muslim to embrace Islam.
2. If they refuse, force them into submission under Islamic rule with taxes and restrictions.
3. If resistance continues - the sword.
