Diplomatic sources in Lebanon claim that an economic surveillance unit operating under the US embassy in Beirut has uncovered the recent "disappearance" of approximately $21 million from the activities of the "Al-Qarj Al-Hassan" association, Hezbollah's financial arm.
The suspicion: the funds were recently "quietly" routed to the organization's military wing.
According to the sources, the investigation identified financial movements that took place during the months of February to April, without being directed to the association's "usual" uses, i.e. not transferred to social purposes, not recorded as loans, and not used to rehabilitate branches damaged by IDF attacks.
"The money simply disappeared from the declared system," the sources were quoted as saying.
